Veteran awarded $1.25 million in lawsuit against government

A 70-year-old Air Force veteran was recently awarded $1.25 million in a medical malpractice lawsuit filed against the U.S. government. He was diagnosed with hepatitis C following a colonoscopy in a VA hospital. Hepatitis C is a serious illness that is difficult to treat and can cause severe liver damage.

Defective Georgia food product subject of wrongful death suit

The parents of an infant boy who died in 2011 say that the boy's death was due to a food thickener product that was produced in Georgia. The company that made the thickener, SimplyThick, is now being sued for wrongful death for failing to warn the public about the problem, which did not become public until a month after the boy died.

Rehab facility's response to wrongful death suit thrown out

Calling it deceitful and an attempt at a cover-up, the DeKalb County judge overseeing a wrongful death lawsuit against a local drug rehab facility rejected the response the facility filed with the court. The decision will make it significantly easier for the parents of a patient who died at the facility in 2008 to prevail in their suit.

City of Atlanta paid out more than $3M for car wrecks in 4 years

The City of Atlanta has had to deal with nearly 730 injury and property damage claims related to car accidents since 2008. The city has settled most of the cases for a total of more than $3.27 million, a huge expense that is frequently due to police officers and other municipal employees injuring private citizens in collisions.

Did caffeinated energy drinks cause deaths?

An investigation has been launched by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration regarding the safety of Monster Energy Drinks, a highly caffeinated beverage popular with some young people. The agency has received reports of four individuals' deaths and accusing consumption of the drink as the cause of death. One other individual experienced a non-fatal heart attack after consuming the drink. Investigators will seek to determine whether the beverage is a dangerous product.
