Construction: One Of America’s Most Hazardous Jobs

It takes great skill and strength to be a construction laborer. But while we at Garland, Samuel & Loeb, P.C., understand the pride one takes in a job well done, we also know that the construction field is one of the most dangerous jobs in the country today. In fact, according to CBS News, construction workers suffer the most workplace fatalities out of any other job.

In 2012, 775 construction laborers lost their lives on the job in the U.S. Numerous factors contribute to make this a dangerous profession, including the following:

  • Falls from ladders or large equipment
  • Being struck by heavy equipment or dropped materials
  • Dangerous power tools
  • Scaffolding, floor or roof collapses
  • Electrocution or explosion

If you’re involved in an accident at your construction job, you risk serious and potentially long-term complications from head or spine injuries, broken bones or internal injuries. In many cases, an accident can occur in which you are not at fault – this can include faulty equipment, improper safety procedures or other negligence.

The medical costs for recovery and physical therapy following a construction injury can be staggering. If your injury results in permanent disability, your income may also be affected. This, of course, can cause a great strain for your family and for your own well-being while you attempt to heal. At our office, we have extensive experience working with families who have been impacted by serious construction industry accidents. We believe that strong representation is necessary in helping them gain the resources and compensation they need to recover. For more information, please visit our page on construction accidents.
