Preventing slip and fall accidents

It doesn’t need to be winter for slip and fall accidents to occur. Georgian shoppers may find themselves facing unsafe conditions which can lead to slip and fall accidents in any season. As such, it is best to understand what can be done to prevent these mishaps.

360 Chiropractic states that there are many preventative steps, but surveying the surroundings is the first thing that a person should do. Are there loose signboards overhead? Are there wet patches on the ground? Being aware of these hurdles will allow someone to avoid potential slipping hazards before they are even met. While hazard signs are not always present, shoppers should keep an eye out for them just in case.

A person should also attempt to increase their stability as much as possible. This means wearing sensible shoes with grips on the soles, or even bringing along a walking stick if they know that the terrain will lend itself to slipping, tripping or falling.

The National Safety Council also lists a number of unsafe conditions to avoid or change. This includes cleaning spills, avoiding throw rugs, and keeping an eye out for tripping hazards such as wires. Some buildings will have poorly arranged furniture that makes it difficult to walk, and these areas should also be avoided. Likewise, if any space provides handrails, people should take advantage of it and use it to stabilize their balance further.

In following these tips, it becomes easier to avoid slip and fall accidents, which can cause much pain and inconvenience.
