Four Signs of Nursing Home Neglect or Abuse
Here are four signs of possible neglect or abuse in a nursing home:
- Broken bones: Nursing homes often pass off brittle bones as an inevitable effect of aging. However, sometimes a broken bone is the result of a fall or other accident that could have been prevented. It may also be a sign of abuse.
- Emergency room visits: People go to an emergency room for serious injury or illness. If your loved one required emergency care, find out why. If may be due to neglect or abuse.
- Bed sores:Pressure ulcers are often a sign of neglect. They can occur when nursing home staff fail to reposition a resident who cannot move himself or herself.
- Unexplained health problems: If your loved one’s health declines following admission to a nursing home, he or she may not be receiving needed care, nutrition or medication.
