Possible metal contamination in food distributed to Georgia

Whether from foreign objects or deadly bacteria, food contamination is a dangerous occurrence that pops up in headlines now and then, especially if the result is consumer injury or death. Fortunately, this wasn't the case for two food manufacturers recently when machinery failure resulted in possible defective products that were recalled in order to protect the public. No cases of injury were reported but this type of mistake could have easily taken a different turn.

Lack of heating condemns East Point apartments; residents moved

In cases where a residential property is uninhabitable, it becomes more than an issue of putting up with inconvenient or dangerous property conditions. The property owner has an obligation to provide living conditions that meet city and state regulations for safety and basic necessities. If property owner negligence does occur, the owner or city and state officials may be held liable for damages or injuries that occurred as a result of the property's hazardous conditions.

Hospital misdiagnosis, repeated doctor error devastating to mom

No matter where it happens, medical professional negligence is a serious issue. A woman has filed the first step in a potential suit against the city for hospital negligence, two years after a visit to the emergency room could have caught the early stages of cancer in her right lung. When the now 41-year-old single mother went to the hospital for chest pains in February 2010, she was afraid she might be having a heart attack. However, a first-year resident sent her home with instructions to take pain medication after finding nothing wrong with her EKG and chest X-ray.

Glass cookware under scrutiny with increasing consumer injury

During the holiday season, many households used glass cookware among their cooking products and serving dishes. The number of complaints the Consumer Product Safety Commission received in 1999 on spontaneously breaking glassware was two; that number had soared to 144 in 2011. The nation's two top brands for kitchen glassware, Pyrex and Anchor Hocking, have been the subject of numerous experiments and studies in order to see if consumer complaints about the glass pans being defective products are valid.
